ADVANCED CHILDCARE STUDIES - Year 2

The Advanced Childcare Course is suited to participants who have already achieved Level 5 Certificate or equivalent in Childcare and who wish to develop their career opportunities. Candidates who complete this course will be in a position to work in a supervisory/ management capacity in a variety of childcare services and of course to start their own business in the childcare sector. Subject areas in this Course are delivered through practical workshops, lectures, group work and discussion.

Course Content Includes:

  • Devising and planning curriculum programmes for young children
  • Working with health professionals and social services
  • Developing policies and procedures to support quality childcare
  • Understanding and supporting children's development
  • Developing leadership skills for management, teamwork and staff supervision and development
  • Business studies

INFORMATION

Work Experience
Students will undertake organised work experience two days a week at a supervisory level in a variety of childcare services.

Career and Employment Opportunities

  • Supervisor/Manager in a range of early years settings such as
    • private or community childcare
    • family support centre
    • creche
    • hospital play facility
  • Start and run your own childcare business
  • Work for a national or regional Childcare support agency

Graduates can progress to degree level in Childcare and related areas such as social work, nursing and play therapy.

Entry Requirements
FETAC Level 5, CACHE or NNEB Diploma, City & Guilds Level 2 or any equivalent qualification. Mature applicants welcome Interview.
